Is Life Better at Brunch?

Image
Is Life Better at Brunch? The term "Brunch" was coined in 1896 in England, to describe a Sunday meal that started a little later in the morning for the "Saturday night carousers". We have all had that Sunday when getting up early for church or anything else is out of the question. Judging by the date of origin it's not new either. Taken up as a "thing" in the 1930's in the United States, brunch has become one of those meals when you can surely get the whole family involved or gather a group of friends. It's no longer a meal for snobs as was once thought.  As written by  William Grimes, "At Brunch, The More Bizarre The Better"  New York Times , 1998   "  Instead of England's early Sunday dinner, a postchurch ordeal of heavy meats and savory pies, why not a new meal, served around noon, that starts with tea or coffee, marmalade and other breakfast fixtures before moving along to the heavier fare? By eliminating the n

Alor Cafe is still Staten Island's #1 crepe spot. We don't mean to toot our own horn but when you are craving crepe on Staten Island there is only one place to go...To Alor Cafe. We have mastered putting just about anything in a crepe and making it taste good. What's your favorite? Pictured is a Royal Crepe cheddar, mushrooms, and chicken Some people come just for the savory crepes. Whether it's seafood, beef or chicken we got you covered. Don't worry if you are a vegetarian..we have one for you too! Always tasty, with a bit of field green salad on the side this is a complete meal. But...... We advise you to always save room for dessert. We are putting nutella and chocolate to really good use in our kitchen. Our nutella crepe is just about heaven. With a healthy portion of nutella and chocolate chip brownies inside it may be as close to heaven on a plate as you can get, unless your version of heaven is to add strawberries, bananas, peanut butter o

What is wrong with AlorCafe.com?

Image
What is wrong with Alorcafe.com?  It's been taken hostage that's what. Yep. Turns out our account owner with the hosting company is a person who once owned the restaurant 3 years ago. This is what happens when owners do the hands off approach to social media and internet presence. There should have been a back up plan but there was not. Now ...we can not control our website. The only thing I could control was what you see when you first log on. Which I promptly made sure was this pic below. Is there a new website being built, you ask?  Of Course!!  In the meantime you can find all our menus on our Facebook Fan Page  in the album marked 'menus' and on a great site called WhereYouEat.com  just by easily searching Alor Cafe in the Staten Island section.  Happy eating!!

Alor Cafe is Changing...

Image
Recently,  Alor Cafe went thru some major changes.  A new owner, new menu, and some aesthetic revisions in the dining room.  After nearly 8 years at the helm, in December of 2016, Executive Chef Alex Orman said his goodbyes to Alor Cafe and Staten Island to pursue his passion of cooking and creating in Brooklyn, New York. In a letter to his patrons and friends,  he spoke kindly and sincerely about how Alor Cafe made an impact on his life and career. While he would miss it, it was time to move on. We, at Alor Cafe wish him the best.  Like Alex, we too have begun a new journey. As a restaurant that has been open almost a decade, there is a pattern and expectation held by the customers of what we should be. We want to respect that, however,  respectfully we want a change too. It's time for some growth.  So since then,  we have welcomed a new owner, changed the logo, and menu by adding some new dishes, and finally took away the selections that never quite took off.  The upsi
