Alor Cafe is Changing...

Recently,  Alor Cafe went thru some major changes.  A new owner, new menu, and some aesthetic revisions in the dining room.

After nearly 8 years at the helm, in December of 2016, Executive Chef Alex Orman said his goodbyes to Alor Cafe and Staten Island to pursue his passion of cooking and creating in Brooklyn, New York. In a letter to his patrons and friends,  he spoke kindly and sincerely about how Alor Cafe made an impact on his life and career. While he would miss it, it was time to move on. We, at Alor Cafe wish him the best.

Like Alex, we too have begun a new journey. As a restaurant that has been open almost a decade, there is a pattern and expectation held by the customers of what we should be. We want to respect that, however,  respectfully we want a change too. It's time for some growth.

So since then,  we have welcomed a new owner, changed the logo, and menu by adding some new dishes, and finally took away the selections that never quite took off.  The upside is it has given the place a new shot of energy and  a chance to gain our footing as a restaurant that doesn't hinge on a Chefs personality. Now, its all about the food and the service. There may be some challenges going forward but we are ready. The reviews thus far have been good.

The downside has been that we had to suspend the live entertainment that was once a big part of our identity. However, we learned that the food can speak for itself. We have had to build a new website, which is almost ready for release. It may be sometime before we are exactly where we want to be but... the customers who stick it out with us will not be disappointed.

Progress is about growth. Change is good. We may not have been ready but we are embracing it. For those of you who want to keep up with us and see the changes, go to our Facebook page. You can also find us on Google Plus, and  Instagram. Since our website is in transition all our current menus are on Facebook in a file marked menus.

We hope you will stay with us while we grow.
